Juan Carlos Concepcion (2024)

Juan Carlos “1C” Concepcion is an illustrator and graphic designer from Manila, the Philippines, whose work seeks to observe, document, and interpret human experiences and culture; he holds a BFA in Information Design from Ateneo de Manila University, received the Loyola Schools Awards for the Arts in Illustration, and has built his practice through roles including creative director and art director.
During his stay, he explored various sites and areas around Fujikawaguchiko—including local attractions and the town center—and devoted himself to creating journal-like drawings; already deeply familiar with and actively researching contemporary Japanese culture, he continued his research in Tokyo after the residency and has been developing these findings as seeds for ongoing work.
